Kara Nelson to run at Nationals

Thursday, May 26, 2011

Kara Nelson, a senior from Cherokee, is one of five Morningside College athletes who will compete at the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held through Saturday on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.

Nelson will be competing in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase. Mustang teammate Jessica Hudelson will run in the women's 1500 meter run and three Mustang men - Brian Gesink, Tyler Heitman and Monte Larson - will also be competing at the meet.

Nelson, the daughter of Jim and Susan Nelson of Cherokee, has had a stellar career at Morningside. She is a past Cross Country NAIA All-American, and was also an All-American in the Distance Medley Relay during the 2010 indoor season

Nelson has the 14th fastest time among the women's 3000 meter steeplechase competitors this year, with a time of 11:14.27, which garnered her a second place finish at the GPAC Outdoor Championship. She is Morningside's indoor record holder in the 3000 meters, with a time of 10:19.556.
