CORRECTIONVILLE - The young Ridge View softball team got the 2011 season off to a good start with a 10-1 conference win over River Valley here on Tuesday .
Picking up the win on the mound was Dana Hustedt, who pitched all seven innings, gave up one unearned run and allowed three hits while walking three and striking out a pair.
Leading the way at the plate for the Raptors were Kaitlin Wulf, who went 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBI; Roxanne Grundemeier, who went 1-4 with a home run and one RBI; Dana Hustedt, who was 1-4 with a double and an RBI and scored twice; Emily Schiernbeck, who was 1-3 while scoring two runs; Gretchen Kistenmacher went 1-3 with two RBI; Katie Boyle went 1-3 with one RBI; and Kayla Ronfeldt had two RBI.
Ridge View Coach Scott Phelps said the coaches were happy with the way the kids came out and hit the ball up and down the line-up.
"Our table setters got on base on a regular basis," said Phelps, "and our other hitters came through with some big hits. Our pitching and defense were strong, but we must continue to improve and work for consistency on a daily basis."
