The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball team opened its 2011 season last week with a pair of impressive road wins, defeating Spencer 5-2 in Spencer, and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 7-4 in Hartley.
Kayla Foresman got the pitching win for coach Leo Hupke's Eagles, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out five Tiger batters in seven innings of work.
Reagan McDaniels had two hits and scored a run to pace the MMC offense, while Erica Dreckman had a hit and two runs scored. Jalyn Doeden and Brandi Orr also stroked hits for the Eagles.
In the win over HMS, Foresman again got the pitching win, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and seven walks, with a whopping 11 strikeouts in seven innings.
Foresman helped her cause with a 2-3 batting night, one RBI, and a run scored. Jackie Holmes had a hit and scored twice, and Kayla Theisen walked three times and scored two runs.
Jacobs was 3-3 for the Hawks and scored a run, and Conway was 1-3 with three RBI.
The MMC girls host Le Mars Gehlen tonight, travel to West Sioux Hawarden Thursday night, and to Alta-Aurelia in Alta Friday night.
