Rodeo time in Cherokee!

45th annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo starts Thursday

The 45th edition of the Cherokee PRCA Rodeo comes to the Cherokee County Fairgrounds on Thursday, June 2, and will run through the evening performance on Saturday, June 4.

Rodeo Stock Contractor will again be Northwest Iowa's own Rodeo Hall of Famer, Bob Barnes of Barnes/MJM PRCA Rodeo. The annual PRCA Rodeo is sponsored by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce Rodeo Board.

PRCA Events include Bull Riding, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling and Tie Down Roping. Barrel Racing is a WPRA Event.

Gate admission this year will be $12 for an adult and $7 for a child (13-17) for the Thursday show, with advance tickets, which are available now at the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce office, as well as at several area banks and businesses in Cherokee, selling for $10 and $5. Children 12 and under will be admitted free, if accompanied by a paid adult.

Friday is Queen's Night and the show is $15 for adults and $7 for children, with advance tickets selling for $12 and $5. Children three and under will be admitted free.

Saturday's show prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children ($12/$5 for advance tickets). You can purchase advance tickets at the following locations through Wednesday, June 1:

Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, Central Bank, Valley Bank, Cherokee State Bank, Northstar Community Credit Union, Fareway, Hy-Vee Food Store, Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Bomgaars, Bits & Pieces, Cargo Express-Washta and Rust's Western Wear in Storm Lake and Le Mars. No advance tickets will be sold after June 1. You can also pay for tickets with a credit card by calling the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce at 712-225-6414.

Thursday is "Family Night," with Family Fun Activities scheduled for 5:30 - 7 p.m., including free pony rides, a petting zoo, and Western vendors. There will also be a Calf Ribbon Race at 6:30 p.m., and boys and girls are welcome to participate. There will also be free inflatable rides until show time a 7 p.m. during all three days of the Rodeo.

The Rodeo Performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., "come rain or shine."

Friday's activities will begin with the Chamber Coffee at the LaGrande Hacienda Best Western motel at 9:30 a.m. and the Queen Luncheon will be held at Holzhauer Truck Center at noon. The evening's activities start with a Calf Ribbon Race at 6:30 p.m., and the Rodeo Queen candidates will be introduced at 6:45 p.m. Audience members who would like autographs are asked to get them at this time.

The Rodeo Performance will start at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's activities begin with a Western BBQ at the Historic Cherokee Depot from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., and rumor has it that a Train Robbery may take place at High Noon.

Next on the bill will be the popular Rodeo Parade through downtown Cherokee, starting at 4 p.m.

At 6 p.m. the Pony Rides and Petting Zoo will open at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds.

The evening will conclude, of course, with the final Rodeo Performance of the 45th Annual Cherokee PRCA Rodeo, at 7:30 p.m.
