Katie J. Gross, age 83 of Cherokee, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the Le Mars Good Samaritan Village. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Gregg Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will begin at 1 today, with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Katie J. Gross, the daughter of John and Mary Stahl, was born on Oct. 9, 1927 in Tabor, S.D. Her childhood years were spent in Tabor where she received her education.

On Jan. 25, 1952, Katie was united in marriage to Daniel Gross in Tabor. Nine children were blessed to this union. In the mid 1960's, the family moved to Iowa, making their home in the Cherokee area. Katie spent her years raising her children. She loved cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with her family.

She completed her journey to heaven at the age of 83, with her eight children and numerous grandchildren by her side at the Le Mars Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; infant son, Larry; her parents, John and Mary Stahl; one sister, six brothers and two infant grandchildren, Tylor and Trevor.

Katie is survived by her sister, Ann; eight children; Dori and Paul Rivera of Sioux City, Rosi and Galen Nelson of Phoenix, Ariz., Sol and Sam Gross of Whiting, Lori and Tim Reusch of Meriden, Harry and Joyce Gross of Cherokee, Helen and Jeff Dawson of Cherokee, Danny and Jill Gross of Waverly, and Kathy Stahl and Mike Tentinger of Le Mars; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
