Veterans Appreciation Day in Cherokee Aug. 13

Thursday, June 2, 2011

The Cherokee County Veteran Affairs Office continues to make plans for this year's six annual Cherokee County Veterans Appreciation Day to be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The theme will be "Salute to the 9/11 personnel" marking one of the darkest days in American's history and a shining example of the men and women who protected us with their lives.

Scheduled to be in attendance on Veteran's Appreciation Day are: representatives from the South Dakota Veteran Administration Hospital of Sioux Falls; Iowa Veteran Administration Regional Office of Des Moines; County and National Veteran Service Officers; Military Units; Sioux City Vet Center and Iowa Workforce Development.

There will be music; a craft show and businesses from around the area will participate.

Plus, the Commercial Building at the fair grounds will be hosting area vendors. Cherokee County Veterans Affairs Director Dana Evans explains, "Were hoping for a lot of community involvement this year to make this event the best one yet. There is also a lot of open space for vehicles and for displays."
