GRANVILLE - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles had a good night at the plate, clubbing 15 hits en route to a 13-10 victory over Spalding Catholic in War Eagle Conference hardball action here on Tuesday.
MMC's Tanner Utesch slugged two homers and a double, scored three runs and drove in four of the Eagle runs and John Hoefling also had a great night, collecting four hits in his five trips to the dish.
The two teams battled all night, with MMC grabbing a 7-run lead in the second and Spalding getting four runs of their own in the bottom half of the same inning. MMC made it 9-4 in the 3rd, but Spalding closed their lead to 9-8 in the bottom of the 3rd. MMC collected two more runs in both the 5th and 7th innings, then held on as Spalding got two more in the bottom of the 7th to make the final score 13-10, Eagles.
Jesse Kunzweiler started on the hill for the Eagles, but the decision went to Dylan Spieler, who came into the game in the third inning and gave the Eagles 4 1/3 good innings of relief pitching.
