This year's theme will be centered on a birthday party set for Sunday, June 12 beginning at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Everyone loves a style show so the committee has been busy researching and seeking clothing one would have seen folks wearing to the Marcus Fair and elsewhere back over the years. You will see clothing from 1936 and forward to the present. It was fun for them to gather 75 years of clothing samples to share with their guests.
This will be a wonderful event for all generations of families to participate in. The young will chuckle at what they see and older folks will recall many wonderful memories of what they did to prepare for the fair. There are seven categories at folks may enter to compete such as fancy work, flowers, produce, sewing, baking, canning and crafts. The committee will share several examples of each plus door prizes will be given out representing one of each entry.
From table decorations to displays around the room, guests will have plenty to think about and enjoy. It truly is an event to share with mom and dad, children and grandchildren. One will learn about the development of the fair beginning as a pony show and moving along from there. It is also worth noting, the family names that worked diligently in forming the fair over the years and that many of these names are still represented in Marcus.
The fair wasn't always a four day event. It began as one and over the years, events and days were increased as attendance at the fair grew.
To complete the afternoon, birthday cake and ice cream will be served. Make plans now to attend this event. Those on the committee include Mary Peterson, Bonnie Husman, Faith Specht, Sheree Ogren, Betty Moser, Linda Spieler, Maxine Shea, Lorraine Cave, Rita Delperdang, Fern Clarkson, Joann Johnson and Nancy Hohbach.
