According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 20 million Americans have diabetes- six million of whom are unaware they have the disease. Almost everyone is affected by diabetes, whether they are diabetics themselves or simply by knowing friends or family members who suffer from diabetes.
The next meeting of the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Diabetes Support Group will take place on Monday, June 6. The meeting will be held in the CRMC 1st Floor Education Room beginning at 6:30 p.m. CRMC Registered Dietician Stephanie Jacobson will present "Reading Food Labels." This program is intended to help participants to better understand and interpret nutrition content as provided by packaged goods manufacturers. Everyone is encouraged to bring some of their own food labels to review.
If you or someone you know is struggling with diabetes, the CRMC Diabetes Support Group can provide motivation to take those first steps to a healthier life. Diabetes patients need to know they are not alone and there are people who can help them along their journey with diabetes.
The educational meetings include open discussions, a time for sharing, and peer support in a small group atmosphere. CRMC diabetic educators will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns one may have regarding diabetes. The meetings are free of charge and open to the public.
