Warriors edged by Raiders

Monday, June 6, 2011

SAC CITY - In a game that was well played by both teams for the most part but came down to who made the fewest mistakes, East Sac County(5-1) bested the Alta-Aurelia boys, 4-2, in baseball action here on Thursday. A-A coach Dan Wendel said that while "both pitchers were outstanding, we made a couple of base running mistakes and two costly errors: and that ended up being the difference."

Alta-Aurelia senior Ryan Friedrich pitched well and took charge as the game progressed, going the distance and giving up two earned runs, while striking out six and walking five. Friedrich gave up just three hits - all to the same hitter. Friedrich was also 2-3 at the plate with two singles; Neil Marshall was 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI; and Austin Delp was 1-3 with a single.

Coach Wendel said, "We will learn a lot from this loss, and these kids will only get better from here. Overall we are playing good baseball, but the breaks have not been going our way in some close games. I have confidence this group of kids will be playing their best baseball as the season moves along."

The Warriors play Sioux Central at Sioux Rapids on Wednesday, then travel to Everly the following night to play Clay Central-Everly.
