Cherokee girls drop close one to ELC
ESTHERVILLE - The Cherokee softball girls lost a 5-4 decision to Estherville-Lincoln Central in Lakes Conference action here on Thursday.
Cherokee coach Cara Lubeck said, "We played very well tonight. We were finally able to get a game in without rain. The team made some great plays defensively , and hit the ball very well. Unfortunately, some of the great hits happened to go right to the fielders, but eventually they will drop."
Autumn Schaefer singled in Megan Hummel in the first inning for Cherokee's first run of the game. In the 4th inning, Jackie Wilson and Clare Tuttle both scored on wild pitches and Sarah Ruehle singled to center to score Maggie Lubeck, but Hummel and Ruehle were both left on base when a ground out brought the inning to a close.
Shanon Shaefer pitched a complete game for the Cherokee girls, giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out two and hitting one batter, and Clare Tuttle and Sarah Ruehle both had 2 for 3 nights at the plate.
The Cherokee girls host two Lakes Conference games this week, against
Spirit Lake tonight and Western Christian on Wednesday.
