Cherokee girls drop two games

HUMBOLDT - The Cherokee Washington High softball team played in a tournament at Humboldt on Saturday and came out on the short end of the score in both of their games.

Cherokee lost to Mason City, 11-6, with Sarah Ruehle going 2 for 2 for Washington High - scoring twice and stealing one base; Autumn Shaefer was 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Shanon Shaefer was on the hill for WHS, pitching six innings and giving up 11 earned runs on 18 hits. She also struck out one and walked a pair.

In their second game, WHS lost to host Humboldt, 11-1. Shanon Shaefer was 2 for 3 and Hope Hoefling was 1 for 2 and scored Cherokee's lone run.

Kaitlyn Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs on 10 hits, while striking out one and hitting one. Shanon Shaefer pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out one.

WHS Coach Cara Lubeck said, "The team had some great hits today; unfortunately. they were right at the other team and we weren't able to string then together to score runs."

WHS hosts Hull Western Christian in Lakes Conference action tonight.
