ALTA - Austin Delp went the distance on the hill for Alta-Aurelia Monday night in their Northwest Conference opener here against Newell-Fonda, as the Warriors beat the Mustangs 21-1.
Delp gave up one earned run on three hits, while striking out five and walking three.
At the plate, Ryan Friedrich was 3-4 with five RBI for A-A; Chris Bengtson was 2-2 with a double and two RBI; Christian Weiland added a triple and three RBI; Neil Marshall was 2-3 with one RBI; and Delp was 2-3 with a triple and drove in two runs.
Alta-Aurelia coach Dan Wendel said, "This was a great way for us to start the conference season. We looked very relaxed at the plate and ended up with 15 hits for the game. We had several extra base hits, including a couple of triples, which is good to see after all the work the guys have put in on their hitting. I liked how Austin pitched tonight, as he seemed to get stronger and better as the game went on. We have to continue to stay focused as we have some big games ahead of us this week."
Those big games include one at Sioux Central tonight, at Clay Central-Everly on Thursday, and a home game at Alta against Storm Lake St. Mary's on Friday.
