Just a reminder that there will be no pre-school story time on Tuesdays during June and July. You are welcome to come to the Summer Reading Program, which is for three year olds to sixth graders.
My last news article mentioned going on a scavenger hunt with Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley is a character in a book who became as flat as a pancake after an unexpected accident. At first he did not like his new look.
But then he discovered that he could do things as a flat person that he couldn't do as a regular boy. One of the exciting things that Flat Stanley realized he could do now that he was flat was put himself inside an envelope and travel all around the world (which he has done).
Now he is back in the United States and ready to share his adventures with boys and girls from Cherokee during the "One World Many Stories" reading program. He wants to have a scavenger hunt with the boys and girls of Cherokee. He asked me to put a picture of him and a flag of a country he visited in some of the business windows in downtown Cherokee. Each week Flat Stanley will be placed in a window.
He would like the boys and girls to find him in a window, write the name of the store where they found him, and the name of the country he visited according to the flag he's holding in his hand on a sheet of paper.
Each week of the summer reading program, Flat Stanley will be placed in a new window. Write down the information for each week and then bring it to the library by July 12. Prizes will be given at the Finale for all those who participated in the scavenger hunt. Be sure to put your name on the paper. Each child will be given a paper with a picture of Flat Stanley in their summer reading bag at the Kick Off Program at the Sanford Museum on Friday, June 17. Happy hunting.
Here is a quick run down in of the Summer Reading Program. Kick-Off will be at the Sanford Museum on Friday, June 17 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with Kay Neumann and her "Birds of Prey" which features live birds. "Away We Go" will also be at the Cherokee Public Library on Tuesday, July 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We will be playing games from around the world. The finale will be held on Thursday, July 4 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. with "Mr. Twister" the balloon man. Come to the lower level of the Cherokee Community Center and enjoy hot dogs, chips, and a drink before the program.
