RV boys are shut out at WC

Thursday, June 9, 2011

MOVILLE - River Valley's hurlers did a nice job against a veteran Woodbury Central team in Western Valley baseball action here on Friday, keeping their bases on balls allowed down. However, the Wolverines' defense hurt the team, as they committed five errors on the way to dropping a 7-0 decision to the Wildcats.

RV was only able to get one hit off the WC pitcher, a single by Brennan Riedemann. Brody Riedemann pitched five innings for the Wolverines, allowing four earned runs on six hits, while fanning five and walking three. Tanner Zahnley pitched one inning in relief, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out one.

Coach Goettsch said the Wolverines " hit the ball pretty hard, but right at them - the Woodbury Central defense turned three double plays in the game. They are a really good veteran team, and it showed tonight. A couple of more hits and a few less errors and we played right with them."

The Wolverines travel to Ridge View on Friday.
