CORRECTIONVILLE - River Valley saw a sixth inning 5-2 lead against 8th ranked Class 2A Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto vanish and could not mount a rally in a heartbreaking 8-5 defeat in Western Valley Conference softball action here on Monday.

Bailey Fitch provided a key 2-out, 2-run single to give RV the 5-2 cushion, but a tough inning followed, as MVAO rallied for six runs. Bailey Fitch led the RV offense with two hits, two RBI and a stolen base and her sister Mackenzie Fitch added a double, and took the loss on the mound despite a solid effort. Freshman Abbey Miller came in and relieved and also did a nice job.

RV Coach Dean Norris said, "We are playing better softball, but still making too many mistakes - be it on defense or in out baserunning - that is making it difficult to gain wins. We have a full schedule the remainder of the season and hopefully the improvements will turn into some victories for the girls."

The Wolverines travel to Lawton-Bronson for another Western Valley Conference game tonight and then head to Holstein for a match-up with Ridge View on Friday.
