Flag Day brings flag disposal ceremony

Friday, June 10, 2011

Many communities support summer time patriotic ceremonies and celebrations. The citizens of Cherokee support many of those throughout the summer season, including the most recent Memorial Day ceremony held at Oak Hill cemetery.

If the Memorial Day ceremony is considered the season opener, then Flag Day will be second game of the season.

Please join the Cherokee VFW, American Legion, Boy Scout, and Girl Scouts in a ceremony that properly disposes of worn, torn, and retired American flags. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 14 at the Cherokee Airport parking lot beginning at 6 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair to be comfortable while the flags are properly presented and disposed. This is a great opportunity to witness the proper disposal of American flags.

If anyone has flags that need to be disposed of you may drop them off at the VFW located on East Maple, the American Legion or Nelson Sewing & Crafts which are both located at 515 West Cedar, the Veteran's Affairs office on West Main Street, or with any VFW, American Legion, or Vietnam Veteran member.

You may also bring them to the ceremony to present yourself or have the one of the participants present it for you.
