WHS alum Florke to be at Book Vine Saturday

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Randy Florke
Washington High School 1981 graduate Randy Florke will be home this weekend for his 30th high school reunion, and while he is here, Florke will also be doing a book signing at the Book Vine from 1 - 2 p.m. on Saturday for his latest book, 'Restore, Recycle, Repurpose: Create a Beautiful Home.'

Randy was born on a farm here in Iowa and moved to New York City in 1981 to attend school and model with the Wilhelmina Agency, traveling to Japan, Paris, Milan, and Amsterdam on assignment.

The purchase of a farm in Iowa led him on his first real estate venture when he renovated the homestead and collected and displayed locally foraged antiques. The satisfying results of this renovation led to his purchase of a property in New York State, and Randy again went to work, and a real estate business was born.

The Rural Connection (www.theruralconnection.com), Randy's thriving real estate business in New York City, features charming country homes in Sullivan County, New York. Over twenty years of renovating, decorating, and selling country properties comes together in Randy's most recent foray into modular homes. A vintage and rural sensibility informs the design process, enabling the buyer to erect a brand new dwelling with 19th century character. Described as a "jack of all home trades" by 'Metropolitan Home,' Randy gently renovates period gems, collects and refurbishes antiques, transforms interiors with a pared-down sensibility, and matches would-be owners with their dream homes.

As a contributing editor to 'Country Living' magazine, Randy's eagerly awaited articles advise 'ordinary folk' on issues incorporating design, color, and economy. The New York Times has dubbed him "super stylist," saying "his interiors mix simple furniture and subtle color with an innate sense of how to pull it all together." Randy has made frequent television appearances on programs on HGTV, CNN, the Discovery Channel, MSNBC, and NBC's 'The Today Show,' and his most recent forays into television involve his appearances as a host and product developer on the Home Shopping Network (HSN).

Randy's first book, 'Your House, Your Home; Randy Florke's Decorating Essentials', which highlights his ability to decorate and live in today's hectic world, was published in the spring of 2005, and an updated soft cover version, retitled 'Your House, Your Home, Creating The Home You Love to Live In,' was released in August of 2006, with new photos and a revised cover.

Randy's second book, 'Recycle, Restore, Repurpose: Create A Beautiful Home' is the book he will be signing at the Book Vine on Saturday. It was released in June 2010, and in the book he discusses 'green décor.'

Randy Florke lives in New York City with his growing family, and on weekends they can often be found at their Sullivan County farmhouse, where, Randy says, "many chores await."
