Wolverines shut out by Westerners

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

PAULLINA - The South O'Brien boys had a rough day at their own baseball tournament here on Saturday, dropping a tough 3-2 game to Ridge View, then being beaten soundly by Akron-Westfield, 12-0, in five innings.

The Wolverine bats could only produce a pair of hits - both by Zane Roberts - against the Westerners, and a pair of freshmen did mound duties for South O'Brien. Bret Puhrmann took the loss, giving up 10 earned runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched, while Michael Callahan finished up, allowing one run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings.

South O'Brien resumes War Eagle Conference action tonight at Granville Spalding Catholic.
