ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boys beat Storm Lake St, Mary's, 4-2 on Friday in Northwest Conference baseball action here.
A three run 3rd inning helped A-A gain the cushion they needed to win the tough game against the 4th-ranked Class 1A Panthers. The top four hitters in the Warrior lineup got all six of the team's hits. Neil Marshall was 1-2; Jalen Henningsen was 2-2 with a double and a sac bunt that scored the team's first run; Christian Weiland was 1-3 with one RBI and Ryan Friedrich was 2-3 with one RBI.
Christian Weiland went the distance on the hill for the 2A Warriors, striking out 13 and walking four, while giving up one earned run on three hits.
"This was a great baseball game and both pitchers (Weiland and St. Mary's Andy Drey) threw the ball very well," said A-A coach Dan Wendel. "As usual, Christian figured out ways to get hitters out when he needed to. He continues to be very tough to hit."
This (conference) race will go down to the wire," he said, " and we have to stay focused each and every night out."
The win put the Warriors' season mark at 12-3, and St. Mary's is 10-2.
