The Warrior girls beat host Emmetsburg, 2-0, in their first game of a tournament, playing what Warrior coach Dave Turnquist called "possibly the most complete game of the year. (Pitcher) Kaitlyn (McCormick) was awesome and we had some timely hits."
McCormick pitched a shutout, allowing just five hits while walking two batters and striking out 12.
In their second game, against Manson-Northwest Webster, the Warriors "were a little sluggish and had trouble timing their pitcher," according to Coach Turnquist. Be that as it may, Alta-Aurelia won the game, 12-4. over their Northwest Conference rivals.
Alexis Hernandez led the Warriors' offensive attack with three hits, including two doubles, and Lesa Turnquist got the win on the hill for the Warriors, pitching well, giving up four earned runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out four.
For the day, Lesa Turnquist was 3-5 at the plate and drove in a run; Kaylee Strock was 3-6 with two RBI; Hernandez was 3-4, scored three times and drove in four runs; and Hilary Glienke was 3-5, scored twice and drove in one.
The Tournament Champion Alta-Aurelia Warrior girls, ranked third in the state in Class 2-A, now have a 13-3 overall mark for the season and are 3-0 in the conference.
