Warrior girls beat L-M in six innings

Friday, June 17, 2011

LAURENS - The Alta-Aurelia Warriors' softball team, ranked number 3 in the state in Class 2A, improved their season record to 15-3 and their Northwest Conference mark to 4-0 with a six-inning 14-1 triumph over Laurens-Marathon here on Wednesday.

The Warriors' Kaitlyn McCormick picked up the pitching win, as she went the distance, giving up one earned run on four hits and striking out eight batters. McCormick was also one of three A-A hitters, along with Haley Payne and Hillary Glienke, to have a 3-4 night at the plate.

Alta-Aurelia coach Dave Turnquist said that the Warrior pitching, hitting and defense all turned in solid performances in the game.

" A conference win on the road is always important," he stated, "and the girls came through tonight."

The Warriors play in the Akron-Westfield tournament, hosted by the top-ranked Class 1A Westerners, on Saturday.
