STORM LAKE - Ridge View scored two runs in the top of the first, but that was all they got against a state-ranked Storm Lake St. Mary's team in a 9-2 non-conference baseball loss here on Tuesday. Chris Brosamle paced the Raptors at the plate as he collected two of the team's six hits, and pitcher Kris Alesch drove in the team's two first-inning runs.
Tyler Munden went 2 for 4 for the Panthers and scored three runs, while Kennedy Drey was 2 for 3 and scored twice, and Bobby Ivey was 2-2 and scored once.
Ridge View coach Shannon Tesch said that St. Mary's has a good team, and are fundamentally sound and make the defensive plays.
The Raptors, on the other hand, committed five errors in the game, prompting Coach Tesch to comment,"We kicked the ball around a little in this one, and that cost us."
Wessling took the loss on the mound, giving up four earned runs in six innings while walking three and striking out four. Joe Sandhoff got the win for St. Mary's, giving up no earned runs on six hits, walking one and striking out three.
The Ridge View Raptors are 8-5 on the season and 6-2 in the Western Valley Conference. SLSM, which is ranked fourth in the state in Class 1A in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches' poll, is now 11-2 on the season.
