MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team bounced War Eagle Conference foe Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 5-3 in an entertaining game here last week.
Freshman Dylan Spieler got the pitching win for coach Al Vasher's Eagles, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks, with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
MMC used a four-run second inning to account for its margin of victory.
Leading the way at the plate for the Eagles were John Hoefling 3-3 with a double and RBI, Zach Specht 1-3 with a double and two RBI, and Eli Hohbach 2-3 with one RBI.
Greg Hegstad led the hawks attack with a two-run triple and a run scored.
"I thought that both teams played a good, solid high school baseball game," said MMC coach Vasher.
"Both pitchers did a good job of changing up speeds and locations and kept hitters off balance. Dylan hit his spots and scattered the hits. The defense did a great job behind him of making plays when given the opportunities."
MMC hosts Sergeant Bluff-Luton tonight, and travels to arch-rival Le Mars Gehlen on Monday night.
