A-A Warrior boys blank Rebels

Friday, June 24, 2011

ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boys, behind the 3 - hit pitching of Christian Weiland and a productive bottom part of the batting order, shut out the Sioux Central Rebels, 3-0, in Northwest Conference baseball action here on Monday.

The senior Weiland struck out nine and walked two in picking up the win; sophomore catcher Alex Stephan made a couple of big plays on defense, tagging out two runners at home plate; and the Warriors' 7-8-9 hitters, James Curbow, Chris Bengtson and Austin Delp, drove across the team's three runs.

Alta-Aurelia coach Dan Wendel said, "With the wind blowing in, runs were at a premium (tonight), and we were fortunate to get a couple later in the game. Their pitcher (Nick Wittmaack) did a nice job keeping us guessing, but the bottom of our order came through for us again. Sioux Central is well- coached and they always play hard, so we are extremely fortunate to come out with a victory. This was a big conference win."

The win was the 14th in a row for Alta-Aurelia, which now boasts a 17-3 record on the season.
