Lily of the Valley Open House

Lily of the Valley #5 One Room School house will be having an open house in conjunction with Cherokee's Summer Festival on Sunday, July 3.

The schoolhouse is located at 2020 Highway 3 Bypass (on the grounds of Northwest AEA) in Cherokee. Cherokee County Retired School Personnel will sponsor and host the event.

The event will kick off with the flag raising ceremony at 10:30 a.m. which will be directly followed by the schoolhouse presentation at 10:45 a.m. Free lunch with a free will donation will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be various entertaining displays and activities. Judy Miller will teach children how to make their own ropes. Children will be able to paint rocks with Morgan Graverholt.

Karen Thomsen will captivate with craft activities. Anna Marie Higgens will show off her antique display. There will also be an author signing with Dr. Bruce and Jeannette Hopkins.

At 12:30 contestants from four different age groups will compete in a rigorous spelling bee. The age groups are grades K-4, grades 5-8, grades 9-12, and adults.

The event will conclude with the playing of old fashioned games from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Prizes will be offered for games such as the bean bag toss, the ring toss, the gunny sack race, and the spoon race. Drop the hankie, clothespin drop, and checkers will also be played.

All are invited to join the event for fun and refreshments.

Also, the Alpha Delta Kappa will be having a garage sale on Friday, July 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, July 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at Cherokee Roosevelt Elementary School.
