MMC girls post 3-1 tourney mark

SPENCER - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls rang up a 3-1 record at last week's Spencer Invitational Softball Tournament, defeating Cherokee 8-1, falling 9-1 to Estherville-LC, and beating Spirit Lake 5-0, and Le Mars 3-2.

The information on the MMC-Cherokee game was in Wednesday's Chronicle Times.

In the loss to E-LC, the Eagles managed just five hits and one run. Brandi Orr was 2-3, and Kayla Foresman, Jalyn Doeden, and Taylor Holmes each 1-3 to account for the MMC hits.

Stephanie Specht took the pitching loss for the Eagles, allowing six runs on 11 hits and two walks and one K in seven innings.

Specht got the mound win for MMC against Spirit Lake, limiting the Indians to eight scattered hits and two walks, with four Ks in the seven shutout innings.

Doeden led the winners at bat with three hits ncluding two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. Beth Specht was 2-3 with two RBI, and Erica Dreckman 1-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Reagan McDaniel got the pitching win over Le Mars, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks and one K in three innings of work. Specht pitched four innings and gave up two hits and one walk in her shutout performance.

Kayla Theisen had a double, two RBI, and a run scored to pace the Eagles, while Doeden doubled with one RBI, and Beth Specht was 2-2 with a run scored.

The 18-5 MMC girls play at #1 Akron-Westfield tonight, and at Hinton Friday night.
