LE MARS - The gritty Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team swept War Eagle Conference arch-rival Le Mars Gehlen by the scores of 6-4 and 6-1 in a weather makeup doubleheader here Monday night.
The Eagles came out cooking in the first inning of the opener, scoring four runs and put the Jays back on their heels.

Jesse Kunzweiler got the mound win, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks, with two strikeouts in seven inning of solid work.
"I was really happy with the way the boys came out and jumped on them early," said MMC coach Al Vasher. "When we scored four runs in the first that really put the pressure on them. It was nice to see the kids put together a solid game on both the defensive and offensive sides."
Utesch got the pitching win in the second game, allowing one run on two hits and three walks, with six Ks in six innings. Dylan Spieler pitched one inning and struck out two batters.
Kunzweiler led MMC at the plate, with a 3-4 game and three RBI, while Specht was 2-4 with two runs scored, and Andrew Hoefling 2-4 with an RBI.
"The kids played a nice, well-rounded game," noted coach Vasher. "The pitching was on target and we seemed to get the hits when we needed them. Again, scoring four runs in the first inning just seemed to set the tone for the game. Our defense was solid and we played as a team. It was a good night."
The MMC boys play at Hinton Friday night.
