MAPLETON - The River Valley Wolverines played a pair of Western Valley Conference games here on Tuesday, dropping their first game, 12-2, to host Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, despite three hits by freshman Brennan Riedemann.
In their second contest, the Wolverines fared much better. With the frosh Riedemann on the hill, the Wolverines collected their first win of the season, 11-2, over Ar-We-Va.
At the plate for RV, Hunter Casey was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Skylar Shever was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Adam Schirmer, Brody Riedemann, Parker Goettsch, Blane Cullen, and Wyatt Fitch each contributed a hit to the Wolverines' nine hit attack. Brennan Riedemann pitched very well, allowing just one earned run on six hits in six innings pitched, while walking only one and striking out 10.
RV coach Eric Goettsch said, "The boys played a good overall game. We hit the ball well and Brennan pitched a great game. It's nice to get a win."
Nice indeed. Tuesday's big win was the first one of the season for the Wolverines following 19 losses, and it couldn't have come at a better time, as the regular season winds down and tournament play begins.
River Valley travels to West Harrison in Mondamin tonight for the regular season finale and takes on Kingsley- Pierson in Kingsley next Tuesday in 1A District Tournament action.
