DES MOINES -- Blood donors make a big impact in the lives of local hospital patients. Just one unit of donated blood can help up to three different people and will have a lasting effect on the patients who receive the blood. You can be a contributor in your community this summer by taking the time to make a life-saving blood donation.

Blood donors who make a donation between now and September 10, 2011 have the exclusive opportunity to redeem a special "What Color Do You Bleed" t-shirt in a variety of team colors. The limited-edition t-shirts are featured for 100 points at LifeServe Blood Center's Online Store Please plan to donate at an upcoming blood drive:

* Cherokee Community Blood Drive, Tuesday, July 26 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Cherokee Community Center, 530 W. Bluff.

* Aurelia Community Blood Drive, Thursday, July 28 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aurelia Community Center, 235 Main Street.

The Blood Center of Iowa joined operations with Siouxland Community Blood Bank in April, 2010 to become LifeServe Blood Center.
