CLEGHORN - The third time was a charm for the quality Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles here Friday night, as they put it together in thrilling fashion to beat arch-rival Le Mars Gehlen 3-2 in 11 innings in a Class 1A Regional Softball Tournament semifinal.

The game was decided in the 11th inning when MMC's Stephanie Specht singled in pinch runner Agneleah Hoefling with the winning run.

The Eagles dropped a hard-fought 8-3, 5-4 doubleheader in Le Mars a few weeks ago due to weather postponements setting up the twin bill, before turning the tables when it counted most with a tense 3-2 tourney win over the talented Jays.

Kayla Foresman got the pitching win for MMC over Gehlen in a masterful performance, allowing two unearned runs on eight scattered hits and no walks, with seven strikeouts in 11 innings of stellar work.

Erica Dreckman had two hits, run scored, and two stolen bases for the winning Eagles, while Foresman was 3-5 with an RBI, Regan McDaniel 2-4 and a walk, Specht 3-4 with that huge RBI and a run scored, and Beth Specht 1-3 with a walk.

Amber Timmins took the pitching loss for the Jays, allowing three runs (one unearned) on seven hits and two walks, with three Ks in 11 innings.

Steph Rohe was 3-5 with a run scored to lead the Jays, while Brittany Loutsch was 2-4, and Shannon Smith 2-5.
