The Cherokee Swim Team opened their 2011 season on June 15 by hosting the Laurens Swim Team in the first dual meet of the season. It was a great night for a swim meet and Laurens brought some fast swimmers to challenge Cherokee's team.

There were also several second place finishes that came just behind teammates and proved for some fun races. Early in the meet Kylie Mongan was touched out by just .43 seconds in the 11-12 girls' 100m freestlye where she finished in 1:15.42. Later she placed second by less than 1.5 seconds in the 50m breaststroke race with her time of :50.32. Two more swimmers finished in second in this age group with Addisyn Jensen taking second in the 50m butterfly in :59.99 while Apryl Mesler was second in the 50m backstroke race where she posted a time of :52.66. This is obviously a very competitive age bracket for the Cherokee team.
