MARCUS - Plans are finalized and tons of total family entertainment await for the 2011 Marcus Community Fair scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, August 11-14 at the Marcus Fairgrounds.
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Fair and represents the 27th consecutive year of free gate admission made possible by fundraising, Cherokee County funding, State funding, Grant writing, and generous local supporters.
The Exhibit Buildings will be open to the public from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13; closed at 4 p.m. Saturday for the Parade; and open noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Thursday, Aug. 11, is entry day for all exhibits, and weigh-in day for all livestock.
The Fair kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with the Little Miss Marcus Fair Pageant, Babies on Parade, Induction of Hall of Fame Board Members, and the Induction of Rev. Samuelson Memorial Awards.
The big Saturday Night Street Dance from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Main Street features a beer garden, and music from bands, "One Nite Stand" and the "Fabulous Flippers," a famous Midwest show band and national recording artists of the 60s and 70s.
The Jaycees Street Dance featuring "17 Candles" is set for Friday night on Main Street from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. That also includes a beer garden.
