On Wed. July 13, the Cherokee Swim Team took to the water in their last home meet of the 2011 season, hosting a very small contingent from both the Humboldt and Fort Dodge swim teams.

Two records were broken during the meet, which went by quickly. The 11-12 girls' 200m Medley Relay team of Kylie Mongan, McKenna Alitz, Lindsay Williams and Kaely Hummel finished with a time of 2:48.9, breaking the previous record of 2:50.5, which was set in 2001 by the team of Nicole Gerstandt, Kayla Messerole, Kylie Dilla and Mallory Meylor. Another 11-12 girls' record was broken when Kylie Mongan won the 100m Individual Medley in a time of 1:31.85, breaking the record of 1:32.55 set by Kylie Dilla in 2001.

The Cherokee team won 42 events in the meet, with five Cherokee swimmers winning all three of their individual events, seven more winning two events, and another thirteen winning a single event.

Triple winners included Halie Kraft, who won the 13-14 girls' 100m freestyle in 1:16.17, the 50m butterfly in 39.32 and the 50m freestyle in 35.11; Kenna Mongan.won the 8 & under girls' 25m backstroke in 32.62, the 25m breaststroke in 34.53 and the 100m I.M. in 2:48.77; Kylie Mongan won the 11-12 girls' 50m backstroke in 42.09 and the 50m breaststroke in 47.88, in addition to her record-breaking 100m Individual Medley performance; Brennon Prentice won the 15 & over boys' 100m freestyle in 1:10.58, the 50m breaststroke in 40.38 and the 50m freestyle in 31.37; and Matthew Stieneke took the 9-10 boys' 25m backstroke in 24.17, the 50m freestyle in 46.9, and the 25m freestyle in 19.57.

Double winners included Brett Barritt in the 13-14 boys' 50m backstroke in 43.35 and the 50m freestyle in 34.63; Calvin Chalstrom in the 13-14 boys' 50m breaststroke in 49.83 and the 100 I.M. in 2:04.68; Brianna Fowler in the 15 & over girls' 50m backstroke in 39.93 and the 50m freestyle in 35.3; Aliyah Graybill in the 8-and-under girls' 50m freestyle, in 1:11.77, and the 25m freestyle in 32.00; Kaely Hummel in the 11-12 girls' 100m freestyle,in 1:19.72, the 50m freestyle, where it took just 34.95 to get the win; Taylor Richardson in the girls' 9-10 25m butterfly in 29.38 and the 100m I.M. in 2:10.77; and Kaeleb Royster in the 11-12 boys' 100m freestyle, in 1:48.71, and the 50m breaststroke, in 54.81.

Single event winners included Kameron Royster in the boys' 8 and under 25m breaststroke, in 37.96; 9-10 boys Trevor Lundquist in the 100m freestyle, in 1:46.35 and Carson Mongan in the the 25m breaststroke, in 29.7; 9-10 girls Megan Brown, in the 100m freestyle, in 1:47.99; Raegen Brunsting in the 50m freestyle, in 48.33; Addie Cosgrove in 25m freestyle, in 21.35 and Alayne Graybill in the 25m breaststroke, with her time of 30.13. In the 11-12 age group, Tyler Richardson won the boys' 50m freestyle in 44.31 and Lindsay Williams won the girls' 50m butterfly in 44.69, and in the 13-14 girls' age group, Liz Herrera won the 50m breaststroke in 50.16 and Grace Teusink won the 100m I.M. in 1:47.01.

In addition to all the individual wins, the Cherokee relay teams went undefeated on the night, winning all 16 races in which they were entered. For the 8 & under girls, the 100m Medley Relay team of Bailey Wilkie, Aliyah Graybill, Kenna Mongan and Jaylyn Vandervort finished in 2:41.77, while in the 100m Free Relay it was Mongan, Graybill, Vandervort and Sarah Mesler who won in a time of 2:21.23. In the 9-10 age group, the 100m relay teams swept all four events, with the girls Medley team of Alayne Graybill, Brianna Sleezer, Emma Jensen and Megan Brown winning in 1:46.38 , the Free Relay team of Taylor Richardson, Sleezer, Brown and Rylee Gannon winning in a time of 1:26.56; the boys' Medley Relay team of Matthew Stieneke, James Creel, Trevor Lundquist and Carson Mongan winning in 1:48.01 and Stieneke, Lundquist, Mongan and Kaiden Royster won the Free Relay in 1:36.49.

In the 11-12 age group, the team of Kylie Mongan, Kenna Alitz, Lindsay Williams and Kaely Hummel won both the girls' 200m Medley and Free Relay with winning times of 2:48.99 in the medley and 2:35.90 in the free. In the 13-14 age group, it was another clean sweep of all four relays, with the girls' 200m Medley Relay team of Britney Sargent, Emma Stoops, Halie Kraft and Taylor Hirschman winning in 3:09.67; Sargent, Kraft, Hirschman and Grace Teusink winning the 200m Free Relay in 2:32.34; Brett Barritt, Kaeleb Royster, Tyler Richardson and Adam Cedar winning the Medley in 3:23.22 the Free Relay in 2:46.08. The relays in the 15 & over age group also took all four relay events. For the girls, it was Brianna Fowler, Grace Teusink, Halie Kraft and Mikayla Schuett won the 200m Medley Relay in 2:47.64, while it was Fowler, Schuett, Hirschman and Mikki Hinkhouse who took the 200m Free Relay in 2:32.12. For the boys,the team of Alex Winchell, Mitchell West, Calvin Chalstrom and Brennon Prentice won both relays, taking the medley in a time of 3:06.16 and the free in 2:49.39.

Cherokee Coach Jodi B. Mongan said, "This meet was a great chance for the team to have one last shot at breaking some records and to swim in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.'

The team will finish their season with three away meets next week.
