Eleanor Arlene Brady was born Jan. 24, 1923, the daughter of Hans and Margrethe (Laursen) Rasmussen. She was raised on a farm north of Marcus, attended rural school through eighth grade, and graduated from Marcus Public High School in 1940.
Eleanor married John H. "Jack" Brady on Aug. 25, 1941. They lived in the Marcus and Cleghorn area until Jack was killed in an automobile accident on May 19, 1956. In August of that year, she moved to Marcus with her eight children.
Bobby cleaned houses, worked for the hot lunch program at Holy Name School for a number of years, and later became a part-time clerk at the Marcus Post Office, where she worked from 1974 until she retired in 1990.
She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Ann's Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed all sports, especially bowling and golf. Bobby loved to bake and was noted for her decorated cakes. For many years she worked in the baked goods area for the annual Marcus Fair and was given the Reverend Samuelson Memorial Award in 2003 for her many years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack: her parents: four brothers, Carl, Harry, Max and Don Rasmussen: and two sisters, Evelyn Peterson and Margaret Simonsen.
She is survived by her eight children, Margaret "Peg" Brady of Sioux City, Pat and Lynn Brady of South Sioux City, Neb., Bob and Mary Ellen Brady of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Julie and Pete Bindner of Marcus, Bill Brady and his friend Diana of Iowa Falls, Theresa Brady of Sioux City, Jeff and Mary Brady of Wayne, Neb. and Mark Brady of Omaha, Neb.; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Alice Rasmussen and Irene Rasmussen of Sioux City, and three brothers-in-law, Doyle Simonsen of Cherokee, Ray Brady of Storm Lake, and Jim Brady of San Clemente, Calf.
Memorials may be directed to the Marcus Fair Board or the Marcus Fire and Rescue Unit.
