On Monday the Cherokee Rotary Club donated backpacks, each filled with $26.99 worth of school supplies (provided by Hy-Vee) to Mid-Sioux Opportunities. The Rotary Club annually donates these backpacks.

Mid-Sioux will, in turn, distribute the backpacks to local K-4 students who come from income-eligible families, as determined by Mid-Sioux guidelines.

The Back Pack School Supply Project has been one of the Rotary Club's main projects for several years, and a grateful Cherokee Mid-Sioux Director Joan Forcier says that many students have benefitted from the program each year of its existence.

This year, 87 backpacks were donated - the largest number the Rotary Club has given to date. Rotary Club member Tim Haupert stated that there is still a need of another 70 backpacks, and if any business would like to contribute to this worthwhile project, they may contact him at the Cherokee Hy-Vee Store.
