Chuck Wulfsen, President of Central Bank in Cherokee, is pleased to announce that the John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund has extended its scholarship award to Jacob Lewis for the 2011- 2012 school year. Jacob will receive $950, based on the current annual income of the trust, which is administered by Central Bank. This brings the total scholarship amount paid to all recipients to date to $69,9460.

The Dewar Scholarship is awarded to Cherokee Washington High School graduates and provides money for tuition over a four-year period, providing the recipient is a full-time student at an accredited college, vocational school or other post-high school institution. The recipient must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

The parameters of the Dr. John W. Dewar Scholarship Fund, established in 1992, were determined in the will of the late Lois M. Dewar. Selections are made by a scholarship committee appointed by the Superintendent of Schools. The award is based on academic achievement and financial need. Jacob, the son of Kent and Becky Lewis, is attending the University of Northern Iowa.
