Hupke NW Iowa Coach of the Year

Veteran coach Leo Hupke was named 1A Coach of the Year for the Northwest District by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association recently for his work with the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn High School softball team.

Several area players were also named to the Northwest District All-District team, including Kayla Foresman, Jalyn Doeden and Erica Dreckman from Coach Hupke's MMC squad in Class 1A.

Also, Alta-Aurelia's Lesa Turnquist, Katlyn McCormick and Jordan Henningsen, and Ridge View's Dana Hustedt and Roxanne Grundmeier, in Class 2A.

Hupke, a retired veteran Cherokee Washington High coach and teacher, coached football, track and field, and baseball during his long career in Cherokee. He has coached the MMC varsity softball team and junior high football teams for the past several years.
