SPENCER - Sixth grade through high school students are invited to showcase their vocal talents Friday, September 16 for a chance to sing the National Anthem at the Big Time Rush performance Saturday, September 17 at the 2011 Clay County Fair.
National Anthem registration and tryouts are set for Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the 4-H Auditorium with the winner announced at 3:00 p.m. The Anthem must be sung accapella (without accompaniment) and is open to soloists and small group ensembles. Anyone in grades six through twelve is encouraged to call Kaye Price at 712-262-5935 or 712-339-1102 for more information.
In addition to the talent presentation on Friday, numerous presenters will be appearing in the 4-H Auditorium throughout the week. A "Chef of the Day" will be featured Monday through Friday at 11:00 a.m. Presentations will include Chef Jeremy Neppl of LaChiesa "Italian on the River", Chef Margo Sievers and the Chefferettes "Not Quite Julia-Can't Get Enough", Chef Chad Plueger "Come to the Cabernet for Fine Food", Chef Adam Hunt "Cooking EVENT with Adam", and Allison Hill "The Whole Story on Whole Grain." Free samples will be available at each event!
Afternoon presentations will take place Monday through Thursday in the 4-H Auditorium at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Presenters include: Joan Waller, Director of Clay County Veteran's Affairs, presenting "Salute to Old Glory" with a keynote "Harry Truman impersonater"; "False Gods of Early America"-U.S. Constitution by Harry Rasdal,World War II veteran-Spencer; Theone Quattlebaum with "Photography with a Purpose;" and Lois Spillman and Jeff Messreole of Spencer Community Health with "Heart Health Road Show;" free blood pressure checks; "Edible Boquets" with Jan Lindstrom; LaVonne Hansen's "Chalk Talk"; Julie Elsbacher's "Kettlebell - A Gym in your Hand;" and Jennifer Hansel with "Stott Pilates is for you!".
Musical performers will appear at 4p.m., Monday through Friday in the 4-H Auditorium. Entertainers include vocalist Bill Lauritzen, with "The Bill Lauritzen Touch"; "Music of the Spheres" featuring pianist Elina Ozolins; flutist Deb Jepson; vocalist Wendy VanTassell; Janet Boyens on clarinet.; vocalist Bob Pettit "Singin' at The Fair"; pianist Glenn Henriksen's "Play those Ivories;" and vocalist Billie James, "Awesome Aussie," will also perform.
