Has anyone heard of the Westernaires? This last weekend, thirty-five high school riders and horses galloped into the horse arena at the Marcus Fair and gave an awesome performance.
There were 'oohs and aahs' as riders jumped from one side of the horse to the other and stood on two galloping horses with one leg on each horse as the rider straddled several firelit poles.
At the end of the performance, each rider brought their horse to the edge of the arena so anyone in the audience could pet the horse and talk with the riders. If you ever have a chance to see them, you won't be disappointed.
The Westernaires rode mustangs, palominos, paints, and quarter horses.
If you're a horse enthusiast, or you would like to learn about these and other types of horses, come to the Cherokee Public Library and check out our horse books. We also have horse stories and horse series that are waiting to be checked out.
Since school will begin this week, I would like to remind parents and students about some library procedures. First, a library card is needed to check out books from the library. A parent or guardian must provide the required identification and sign a responsibility card for children preschool - 15 and students 16 - 17 who do not have their own identification. The first card is free.
Our internet policy for students under the age of 18 must have a signed parental permission form on file. The form must be signed by the parent or guardian at the library. It may not be taken home for a signature. Phone calls and notes from parents do not fulfill the requirement and will not be accepted.
The Children's department has a men and women's restroom upstairs. If you have an infant that needs a diaper change, there is a changing table in the women's restroom upstairs.
Finally, we have two tutor rooms upstairs in the children's department. The small room works well for a tutor and one person and the larger tutor room can handle a larger group of people. You can call the library and reserve either room. If the rooms are not in use or reserved when you come to the library you are welcome to use them. Please let the librarian upstairs know when you enter the room.
If you have any questions about the above information call the library at 225-3498.
