According to the City, progress continues to be made on the West Cherry Street renovation project in Cherokee.
The intersections of North 6th, 7th and 8th Streets at West Cherry will open to traffic by today. As these intersections are opened, the North 9th Street intersection will close for completion of the balance of that intersection. It is anticipated that 9th Street will be closed for no more than one week.
The contractor has installed driveways and sidewalk intersections from North 4th Street through North 7th Street; with the back filling behind curbs and at intersections immediately following. This work will continue for the next few weeks until completed through to State Street.
As this work is completed, the City will begin to open blocks of West Cherry Street to traffic. Work at the West Cherry Street and CN Railroad crossing is being coordinated between the Railroad and the contractor, and is hoped to be completed in a one to two day time period sometime within the next two weeks.
North 11th Street utility work is nearing completion. Water mains and service connections have been completed. Water connections to the Hill Street water tower are currently being worked on. Storm sewer main and intake structures are being set in place.
The City remains confident that North 11th Street concrete will be laid in the next two weeks and the street reopened to traffic by October.
