SLOAN - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn football Eagles righted the ship here Friday night, demolishing Westwood 52-14, one week after dropping an intense 22-19 verdict to a tough Sioux Central squad in Marcus.
MMC rushed for five touchdowns and passed for two more on the way to the impressive road victory.
Dalton Brady led the Eagle charge with two TDs on six carries for 30 yards. Jake Meehan rushed nine times for 130 yards and one TD to lead the MMC ground attack, while Andrew Hoefling carried the ball twice for 30 yards and a TD, and quarterback Tanner Utesch two hauls for 14 yards and a TD.
Utesch also was 6-8 passing for 104 yards and two TDs, with Hoefling and Zach Specht on the receiving end of those TD aerials.
All told, MMC rushed 39 times for 278 yards, with Meehan's 130 yards pacinmg the effort. Dylan Spieler was 3-3 passing for 28 yards for the Eagles. Hoefling also scored a TD on a 46-yard punt return to spark the Eagles.
Nathan Zubrod led the stout MMC defense with seven tackles, followed by Specht with six, Dylan Rolfes five, and Jarod Gross five.
For Westwood, quarterback Beau Metcalf was 8-18 passing for 170 yards and both of his team's TDs, including scoring strikes to Bobby Nettleton of 68 and 40 yards.
The Rebels rushed 31 times for just 79 yards against the MMC defense.
MMC (1-1) travels Friday to West Monona in Onawa.
