He was born Jan. 25, 1953 in Cherokee to Lorne and Dorothy Zimmer. Dan started working at the age of 14 on Forse's Farm and graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1972. Dan was united in marriage to Debra Ruotsalainen on Nov. 4, 1972 in Moose Lake. He worked construction jobs after high school in Winona and Duluth before working at Chmielewski Oil in Sturgeon Lake. Dan and Deb eventually purchased the company and operated it as Sturgeon Lake Oil for 18 years. His friendly personality gained him many friends and long standing relationships while running the business. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Dan made special trips, at any hour of the night, to help a friend or neighbor in need. Dan enjoyed working hard, farming, fixing, fishing, hunting with his son, Jamie, but most of all Dan enjoyed a good laugh and good company. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them as well as having a few beers at the Denham Run or Mikey's Bar with friends. He prized the forty acres of land in which he used for many things, especially deer hunting. He loved tinkering with his tractors and toys when he wasn't tinkering with other people's toys.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Lorne and Dorothy and his brother Robert.
