Children's Library Corner

Wasn't this last weekend beautiful? Eight more months of this kind of weather would be fine with me.

As I mentioned in my last article, it has been rather quiet in the children's department since the beginning of school. Everyone is getting back into a routine where they are learning new things, seeing old friends, and participating in activities before and after school.

The library is another great place to learn new things, see old friends, and participate in programs. Be sure to stop by the library and pick up the September newsletter or check our website for updates on programs being offered at the library.

The Terrific Toddlers group met last Saturday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and enjoyed getting acquainted, some action rhymes, bouncing rhymes, and songs with actions. This story time is open to parents and their 1 or 2 year old children. We will meet the second Saturday of each month.

So mark your calendars for Oct. 8 and toddlers don't forget to bring a responsible adult with you.

Our pre-school story time for three to five year olds has begun. We meet every Tuesday from 10:30 -- 11 a.m. for stories, songs, crafts, and fun. This last Tuesday Peg read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See", "I Spy on the Farm" and "Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree". We also sang "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" and marched around the room. We talked about the color brown, named animals that were brown and began with the letter "b", and did actions with the story "Five Little Monkeys....." We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The fire station visit was an exciting time for the fourteen youth and adults that came to our September library program. Justin, the fireman, did a great job of showing us around the fire station, giving the boys and girls a chance to sit in the fire truck and turn on the siren, and let everyone ( adults too) use the hose to spray some water on a pretend fire. Each child received a coloring book about a firefighter and some crayons. A big thank you to Justin and the other firemen for taking the time to share what they do and how they do their job.

Our October program will be about Heros. Be sure to keep checking our website ( www.cherokee.lib.ia.us ) to see when these programs will be offered.
