Scarecrows, Fall Family Fest a joy
Our hats are off to the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce and all the businesses who participate in the annual Dowtown Cherokee Scarecrow Contest, also in conjunction with the annual Cherokee Fall Family Festival on tap Saturday at the historic, restored Cherokee Rail Road Depot.
The Cherokee Depot Renovation, Inc. will be holding its 10th annual Fall Family Fest, Baking and Photography contests on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the historic Cherokee Railroad Depot on South 4th Street in downtown Cherokee.
Kudos also around to the Cherokee Depot Committee and all its hard work in organizing and staging the popular Fall Family Fest that attracts many families, adults and children to Cherokee for a great Iowa fall weekend of fun and entertainment.
The many creative scarecrows perched around Downtown are on display now through much of October and offer visitors and residents a colorful fall exhibit, along with the many corn shock and straw bales displays that greatly enhance the beauty of this scenic Little Sioux River Valley community.
We've heard many comments - all quite positive - of how appropriate the scarecrows and the Fall Family Fest are for Cherokee residents and visitors to come together to greet the colorful new season.
We also hear that fall winds may possibly damage some of the scarecrow displays. We encourage the businesses who are displaying the scarecrows to please shore them up to withstand winds and possible rain because they are truly, a colorful, seasonal attraction in our community.
Thank you, Cherokee Depot Renovation Inc., Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, and dedicated Cherokee merchants participating in the Scarecrow Contest. And, thank you area residents for supporting all those involved in these great family fun events.
Congratulations, one and all! See you at the Depot!
