MARCUS - Smarting from a loss to Le Mars Gehlen the week before that knocked them off their #1 perch in the State Class A rankings, the 4-1 West Hancock Britt Eagles soared by the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles 51-6 here Friday night.
MMC tallied its lone touchdown when quarterback Tanner Utesch hooked up with Zach Specht on a 10-yard pass play. Utesch finished 13-30 passing for 144 yards, one TD, and one interception. Specht had three catches for 108 yards, and Michael Deichmann two for 20 yards.
The tough West Hancock defense held the host Eagles to just 29 total yards rushing on 22 attempts, with Dylan Rolfes leading the way with seven carries for 18 yards.
Chris Schleuger rushed the ball 25 times for 141 yards and three touchdowns to pace West Hancock. Zac Schleuger also returned a kick-off 87 yards to the endzone for another Eagle TD, and Caleb Blocker returned a fumble recovery 10 yards for a TD.
Dalton Brady led the MMC defense with 12 tackles, followed by Andrew Hoefling nine, Isaiah Petersen five, and Specht four. Zac Schleuger led the visiting Eagles' defense with 10 solo tackles.
MMC (3-2) travels to 3-1 Akron-Westfield Friday night for a tough District contest.
