RV competes in Cherokee VB tourney

The River Valley girls won a match and lost three at the rugged Cherokee Volleyball Inviational Saturday in Cherokee.

The Wolverines beat Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 2-1, and dropped 2-0 decisions to Hinton, MOC-Floyd Valley, and Sioux City North in the day-long competition.

In the win over MMC, Kari Ludvigson led the RV hitters with a sparkling 22-25 effort and nine kills, followed by Mackenzie Fitch 11-11 and two kills, and Lexie Chester 9-10 and two kills.

Brittney Shropshire led the Wolverines in serving with a 12-12 effort and two aces, while Jacie Jepsen was 10-12 and two aces, Chester 9-9 and two aces, and Ludvigson 8-8. Jepsen also had 16 set assists to lead that category.

In the Hinton match, Ludvigson led the hitting attack with 17-19 and three kills, while Chester was 8-9 and two kills, and Olivia Goettsch 7-10. Jepsen led in set assists with eight.

Ludvigson paced RV in serving with an 8-8 match, followed by Chester and Shropshire each 6-7, and Brittany Hunwardsen 6-9 with two aces.

Against MOC-FV, Ludvigson led in hitting with 13-14 and three kills, followed by Chester 9-13 and three kills, and Hunwardsen 7-8 and one kill.

Ludvigson also led in serving with 7-7 and two aces, while Hunwardsen was 7-8 and one ace, and Shropshire 5-5.

Against Sioux City North, Ludvigson led in hitting with 10-11 and five kills, while Chester was 9-10 and three kills, and Fitch 8-10. Jepsen tallied 10 set assists to lead that department.

Hunwardsen led her team in serving with a 6-8 effort, while Ludvigson was 5-5. and Shropshire 4-5.
