CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab to sponsor 5k Fun Run/Walk

Friday, September 30, 2011

In support of Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative and in recognition of October being National Physical Therapy Month, the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Physical Medicine and Rehab Department will be sponsoring a 5K Fun Run/ Walk as well as a 1K "Tot Trot /Mutt Strut" on Saturday, Oct. 22. The events will start and finish on the CRMC campus.

Registration for the events will be at 8 a.m., and they will begin at 9 a.m. Runners, walkers, pets on leashes and strollers are all welcome. Participants may choose either a 5K road run/walk or the 1K route on the CRMC grounds. Come and join us for some fun, exercise, and fresh autumn air.

The cost is $15 if you pre-register by noon on Oct. 10, and a T-shirt will be included. Registration anytime after Oct. 10 or on the day of the event will be $20. Only a limited number of T-shirts will be available for later registrants.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories including the top finishers in each age category of the 5k event as well as best tot costume and best pet costume in the 1K events. Water, snacks and fruit will also be provided for participants following the run/walks.

"This is a great opportunity to get moving and help Iowa work towards its goal of becoming the Healthiest State, says CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab Manager Matt Johnson, DPT. "It also provides us with an opportunity to inform the public of the many helpful services the CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab Department has to offer."

CRMC Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Kent Lundquist, agrees. "Many people do not realize how many different services the Physical Therapy profession, in general, provides. We hope this event serves as a way to educate the public of what therapy services are available to help them meet their needs as well as to further rally the Cherokee community in support of Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative," said Lundquist.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Personal Energy Transportation (PET) project, a program designed to provide appropriate mobility for those in need. Visit www.giftofmobility.org for more information about the PET project.

You may pre-register by contacting the CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab Department at 712-225-1502, downloading a brochure at www.cherokeermc.org or by completing the following form as directed and returning it along with your registration fees to CRMC Physical Medicine and Rehab, 300 Sioux Valley Drive, Cherokee, IA 51012.
