CRMC Wellness Center to host weight loss challenge

Friday, October 7, 2011

The CRMC Wellness Center is happy to announce the launch of "F.I.T.-In Cherokee". This program is the first ever weight loss challenge offered by the CRMC Wellness Center. F.I.T. represents "Forever in Training," and the focus is to encourage participants to forever train themselves to make health a lifestyle. The program is being launched to coincide with the beginning stages of Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative and is for people of all ages and activity levels looking to take an active approach to leading a healthier lifestyle in the future.

The first "mini" challenge is a one-month commitment from Monday, Oct. 17 to Friday, Nov. 19. Throughout this challenge, CRMC Wellness Center staff will help participants to recognize and utilize the resources available to help them succeed. Participants are asked to put forth a dedicated effort to try their best. A second three-month challenge will begin on Jan. 17, 2012.

There will be an entry fee of $25 for participants in the first challenge. Included will be a "F.I.T. - In Cherokee" t-shirt, nutrition class, three weigh-ins (body fat composition and weight will be tracked), a food and activity journal, and a schedule of available fitness classes. Participants choosing not to receive a t-shirt may enter the challenge for $15.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three place finishers in the competition. Individuals or teams of two may participate in this challenge. Entrants are not required to be a member of the CRMC Wellness Center to enter the "F.I.T. --In Cherokee" contest; however, one must be a member, or pay the daily fee, to use the Wellness Center facilities.

"We are pleased to offer this challenge to encourage Cherokee area residents to take the first steps towards helping Iowa to become the Healthiest State," says Matt Hoskinson, CRMC Wellness Center Assistant Manager. "Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative is an aggressive undertaking, but it is certainly worthwhile. The great thing about this initiative is that regardless of how Iowa ranks in five years, everyone who chooses to put forth an honest effort to lead a healthier lifestyle, starting today, will be a winner as they will reap the benefits of better heath."
