Megan Hummel paced the Cherokee serving effort with a 9-9 match and two aces, followed by Denise Freed 8-9 and one ace, Megan Carlson 6-6, and Kaitlyn Miller and Shanon Shaefer each 5-7.

Taylor Woods led Cherokee's hitting, with 17-18 and five kills, while Shaefer was 17-24 and one kill, Jackie Wilson 10-16 and three kills, Hummel 9-11 and three kills, and Miller 7-8.

At net, Woods tallied four block assists, Shaefer two and Miller one. Setter Miller totaled 10 set assists in the fast-moving match.

Shaefer also led her team in digs with 11, followed by Miller seven, and Carlson and Hummel six apiece.

"Le Mars is a very hard-hitting team," noted Cherokee coach Julie Hummel. "They had us on defense for the first two games. We did not get to the blocks quick enough, which weakened our offensive attack.

"If we could have played our first two games like we did the last game, it would have been an entirely different match."

Cherokee takes an 11-19 match record to dangerous Estherville-LC (14-8) Tuesday.
